Swedish massage is a more traditional, medium pressured modality, which includes longer gliding strokes, accompanied by kneading, friction, tapping, and shaking movements.
Deep tissue massage is used to relieve extreme muscular, connective tissue, and fascia tension. This style of massage focuses on both the superficial and deep layers of muscles, with the intent of breaking through the surface tension to access the deeper muscular pain. Through technique and adapted strokes, not sustained “deep pressure” (which is different), deep tissue helps to provide relief.
Pregnancy Massage helps to relieve the aches and discomforts caused by the displacement of the body’s center of gravity while expecting. It can help to reduce swelling, stress, and fatigue.
Sport Massage is typically used, before, during, and after athletic events, to reduce fatigue and muscle tension, relieve swelling, encourage the return of flexibility and to prevent injuries. Varying techniques may be employed, including: Swedish strokes, cross-fiber friction, trigger-point work, and joint mobilization.
Hot Stone Massage usually starts with Swedish massage strokes to warm up the muscles. Then hot stones are used, allowing the heat of the stones to penetrate deeper into the muscles, while using relatively little pressure. This heat helps to loosen the muscles, increases circulation, and may help provide some relief from chronic aches. This style of massage is considered to be lighter pressure.
